As the Internet evolves from web sites to services, centralization of our data is becoming a concern.  Matt Asay from the Open Road highlights Tim O’Reilly’s recent statements on the intersection of Web 2.0 and Open Source.

One of the things that’s happening in cloud computing and Web 2.0 is centralization. We need to think about what will make this web platform of the future open.

Cloud computing is threatening to entrap the user within certain services without the flexibility of porting their data elsewhere.  The idea of the web being open in currently under fire.
