Looking back at these older drawings makes me wish that I had done a better job documenting whom it was that I was capturing. Regardless, I believe that this was a caricature of the then-head of the FCC at the time. Why? Dunno. But I still love the style and overall composition.
Back when I worked at the Herald, I did a some editorial caricatures for them including this one of ex-Rep Gary Condit [D]. Condit was perfect fodder for the op-ed pages given the hypocrisy of his public condemnation against Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal when paired against his own extramarital affair with intern Chandra Levy.
Thought that I’d take another pass at the concept sketch for ‘A Grimm Ultimatum’.
I’ve removed the happier spot color and replaced the background with a sort of jaundiced vellum look. Maybe not so cute anymore (but that has never really been my style).
