MyBlogLog redesigns, functionality remains the same
Posted by Bill Gaffney | July 29th, 2008MyBlogLog has finally unveiled its new design which is a good upgrade in aesthetics and user experience over the previous. Unfortunately, the redesign is solely that - a redesign. There are no new features.
…[N]ow everything is framed with shiny shadows and rounded edges! Also notice that on your profile we have moved the most recent visitors module, up on top, not down below the fold so you can quickly see who’s been checking you out.
The redesign does give the impression that the team is committed to giving it the professionalism that it deserves to solidify its role in site metrics and building community online. However without serious attention to the functionality rather than the “funsies,” they run the risk of becoming irrelevant as people migrate to FriendFeed and Google Friend Connect.
Their widgets are their greatest asset and should have been the focus of their efforts (as of now they have not been upgraded to reflect the new design). The only way for them to continue to grow their community is to provide the tools and services that bridge peoples blogs facilitating conversations and friendship.
This is an encouraging start, but please keep going. And for those of you that are part of the MyBlogLog community, please join Gaffney3.

To be honest, the update is so small that I didn’t see the update at first! I have written my review on http://thenextweb.org/2008/07/29/how-yahoo-killed-mybloglog/
You’re absolutely right, Joop.
The aesthetic differences are much more prominent on the homepage prior to logging in. Other design changes would be missed simply because content has shifted to where it should have been all along.
