CBS scoops up DotSpotter for $10 million

In other “you paid how much?” news, it is being reported on ValleyWag and PaidContent that CBS has picked up DotSpotter, a Digg-esque site for celebrity news and gossip, for $10 million. This unheard of wonder, just over a year old, hasn’t exactly cracked the strangle-hold either TMZ.com or PerezHilton.com have on celebrity coverage.

Compete.com comparison:

Seems like the deal was more for the talent than for the site according to the PaidContent article. CBS head of interactive, Quincy Smith, recently bought the financial blog Wallstrip and music site Last.fm. Perhaps CBS ’s altruistic shareholders simply have too much money and want to help the economy out.
